My Hubby the Baker

Today Addie had her 1st birthday photo shoot with Uncle Ryan and I wanted to take some pictures of her eating her first cupcake. Well, after spending all night working on a lesson plan and blogging about Ghost Whisperer, I completely forgot to make them!!!! I asked Eric if he could make them for me while I was at class and he said "Really??? You want me to make cupcakes?" I said "Never mind. I will stop at the grocery store on the way home." I mean...what was I thinking? Eric doesn't even know where I keep the cupcake pans, let alone how to work my Kitchen Aid mixer.

Well, after I got out of the shower, I noticed that Eric wasn't in bed. I figured he was letting Howie out or something but when I went to the kitchen to make my morning coffee...I found this...

I just don't know what is more sexy...my hubby with his shirt off, or my hubby BAKING with his shirt off. Look at him with the mixer all out and ready to go! He even found the 1st Birthday cupcakes papers I had in the baking cabinet. Are you serious? He always likes to pretend that he is so helpless in the kitchen but then he goes and does something like this. The secret is out babe!!! You are going to do ALL the baking from now on. I mean, look how great the cupcakes turned out!

Addie's pictures turned out great as well, but I will save those for another post because Uncle Ryan is in photoshop mode this evening. Hopefully I will be able to post them all tomorrow. Stay tuned!

Ghost Busted

You guessed right my friends...I am doing another post about Ghost Whisper. I just can't help myself!! Tonight was a fun episode for several reasons. First of all, the title of tonight's episode was "Ghost Busted" and that alone made me want to watch because sadly...Ghostbusters is STILL one of my favorite movies (I know...you don't have to say it).

The second thing I loved about tonight's episode was that Melinda FINALLY told Jim/Sam that she sees ghosts! Hooray! Finally!! I would say we are out of the woods, but Jim/Sam still doesn't know he is part Jim and Sam. Are you confused yet? After my last Ghost Whisperer post, a few friends wanted me to give them a very quick recap about what is going on this season so that they can jump in and start watching. So...I thought it might be helpful for me to give a recap to all of you wannabe GW fans out there. Here goes...

Lets start with the main Character, Melinda (Jennifer Love Hewitt). As you can guess by the title of the show....she talks to ghosts. She helps them cross over into the light by solving their problems. Each week we meet a new ghost with a whole new set of issues. Now, besides being a ghost whisperer, Melinda owns an antique store (with one of the most creative names....Same As It Never Was...love it). Anyway, this is her cover for all the people in her life who don't know that she sees ghosts. As of this season, that list is getting shorter and shorter. But in the beginning, only her husband Jim knew she could see ghosts and he was the person she always turned too (besides her sidekicks...the latest of which is Eli).

Well, in an episode during November sweeps, her husband Jim was killed. As you can guess, Melinda saw his ghost right away and instead of crossing over into the light, Jim's soul jumped into the body of another dying man (named Sam) so that he could stay on earth with her. Sam can't remember who he is because Sam's soul has crossed over. But because Jim's soul is in a new body, he can't remember his old life either. So, ever since November, the Jim/Sam character has no idea who he is and is trying to relearn everything about himself. Of course, we see moments where he remembers things from Jim's old life but he still doesn't understand why or how he has these random memories. Well Melinda knows. She knows it is Jim trapped in Sam's body and because Melinda and Jim were soul mates, she is doing everything she can to get him to remember who he is...or was...or is. Anyway, Jim/Sam has fallen for Melinda too and can't understand why he has such strong feelings for her so quickly (I am sure it has nothing to do with her perfect figure or long, batty eyelashes). But anyway, the two of them are just starting this new relationship and even though the story line is a pretty biiiigggg stretch, I love it!!! It is like watching her fall in love with Jim all over again. I mean, how many people get a second chance at true love?

So...all this leads to tonight's episode. As I said, Jim/Sam and Melinda are trying to start a relationship and every time they get the chance to spend time together (or make out) she sees a ghost and has to run off to solve a case. Needless to say, he has been a little suspicious lately and in tonight's episode, he started doing some investigating. And speaking of investigating...

Tonight's episode was all about a "paranormal researcher" who was hired by one of Melinda's neighbors to help get rid of a ghost in their house. Everyone is skeptical of this guy, especially Melinda and Eli since they really do see ghosts, and this guy looks like he is all for show. I mean, check out the car he drives. Seriously?

Well, as it turns out, this guys is actually being haunted and that is why he manages to "see ghosts" wherever he goes. He manages to convince Melinda and Eli that he is for real and that he isn't doing any of this for fame or money. Jim/Sam, however, thinks this guy is a jackass and just as he is ready to punch him out, Melinda stops him and tells him that he is for real. Ghosts are real and she knows this because she can see them. Jim/Sam looks like he is going to run for the hills when he hears this. I mean, could you blame him? You have no memory, you are in love with some random chic and you can't understand why, and then she tells you that she sees ghosts? I would be blowing the peace sign too. But surprisingly, he doesn't!! He tells her he needs some time to process everything but he won't let that come between them. And then they stand on the porch hugging in the rain. Cliche...but oh so adorable :-)

So...did I gain any more Ghost Whisperer fans with my recap? Or did I just confirm exactly why you don't watch the show? Either way...I love it and I can't wait for next weeks episode!!

This Means Trouble

Is it bad that my 11-month-old already knows how to drive?

Is it bad that she already knows how to work a Blackberry?

Is it bad that she already knows how to drive AND work a Blackberry?

I guess I should quit teaching her bad habits. Woops!

More Cowbell Can't Cure This Fever

Baby fever that is. I've got it bad today. Now don't go jumping to any conclusions...Eric and I are not quite ready to start trying for baby #2. But it has been on my mind lately, and days like today don't help.

To start the day, I invited my sister-in-law Dana over for a coffee/playdate so that we could chit-chat and let the girls burn off some energy. Also, I have been dying to give her the "welcome baby" gift I ordered for her a few weeks ago. See...I told you I can't keep gifts a secret. But in my defense, I really wanted Dana to have this gift early so that she could take it with her to the hospital. I got her this adorable baby blanket from Bla Bla
Anyway, while we were sitting at the table talking, the baby was kicking Dana like crazy and she was laughing and rubbing her belly. I don't know what it was about that moment, but watching her made me really miss being pregnant. I honestly LOVED being pregnant and I am so excited to experience it again some day. So anyway, that is how I spent my morning...staring at a cute pregnant chic.

The rest of the day was actually baby-free for the most part. I went to get my hair done, ran some errands, stopped by my old work to see friends and then came home to relieve Grandma. Addie was on a nap strike this afternoon and was a bit crabby when I got home. Nothing like a whining, high maintenance baby to snap you back to reality. Ha! But then after I got Addie off to bed for the night, my neighbor called to see if I wanted to come over and meet her 4-week-old grandson. Boy was I in trouble.

As soon as I walked into their house, I got a big whiff of that new baby smell. And just as I expected, he was cute as a button. He was asleep and snuggled in his little baby blue sleeper. My neighbor was holding him and he had his little tiny hand wrapped around her finger. It was so precious. I actually wanted to cry when I started thinking about Addie when she was just a little peanut like that. When I came home, Eric saw that look in my eye and got excited. You see...he has baby fever worse than I do so he is absolutely NO help. I guess it is a good thing I didn't take him with me to the neighbor's house because if he would have seen that cute little baby..he would have molested me for sure tonight! Haha! Any of you other new moms out there starting to get the itch? Does your baby fever come and go or is it here to stay?

P.S. If you are not a fan of Saturday Night Live and find my title confusing, you can watch the skit I am referring to here. Ann Marie...if you are reading...this is for you :-)

Mommy Has No Self Control

It is physically impossible for me to keep surprises a secret. I have only been successful a few times in my life (i.e. I knew when both of my brothers were going to propose and didn't tell their significant others and when Eric and I had our ultrasound with Addie, I was able to keep her sex a secret for about 4 hours). But other than those two occasions (and a few random others), I have blown every surprise I have had regarding Christmas, birthday, shower, wedding AND anniversary gifts. I have also blown one surprise party and countless other events that friends or family members entrusted me with. But I am getting better. I swear. I am not going to be able to tell Addie what Santa is bringing her ahead of time so I have to learn to be better about this. And one day I will be. But sadly...today is not that day. I broke down and gave Addie a few of her birthday presents. I KNOW!! I am terrible. But wait until you see how much fun they are...

While I was at Target last week, I wandered down the "summer" isle and found a bunch of adorable items that I just couldn't resist. I tried to include links but unfortunately these items are not up on target.com as of yet. But have no fear...I took plenty of pics :-) The first gift I gave Addie today was her very first tent! It is called the Poesy Playhouse Tent and it is SOOOOO cute! Our family belongs to a beach and recreation club and we plan on spending lots of time out there this summer. I thought this tent would be perfect for Addie to crawl into when she needs some shade. For now though...it serves as a fun little playhouse.

As you can see, she already made a home for some of her animals and dollies in there. And even though you can't see it, there is a matching picnic blanket that I laid down on the bottom of the tent. It is water proof and machine washable. Seriously...does it get any better?

The next gift I gave Addie today was the matching Poesy Tunnel. I am trying to ween her off the back of the couch so I thought I would get her a new secret hiding spot! She was trying to take Howie in with her.

We did several laps back and forth today and as you can see from the big smile on her face...the play tunnel was a hit!

{UDATE} Sorry about the type-os. I really do have an English degree :-)

Too Cute Tuesday: Bath Time Fun

Bath time has become a LOT more fun for Addie. She is in the big girl tub now and can splash and play around all she wants. But what I realized tonight is that she is in need of some new bath toys. So...I did a little looking around online and here are some really cute finds.

Sassy Count-N-Spell Foam Bath Appliques

These foam bath letters and numbers are great bath toys for all ages! Even though Addie can't spell or count right now, she loves playing with these. With just a little water, they stick right to the side of tub...or to the side of a little bum :-) These are cute and educational. What more could you ask for?

Tub Time Floating Tea Party by Summer Infant

I don't know what is cuter about this tea set...the little painted flowers and butterflies, or the fact that it FLOATS in the bath tub!!!! I absolutely love this toy. Little girls (and some little boys) love playing tea party and how fun would it be to continue that in the tub? Word of Caution though...I am not sure that bath water would make the best "tea". Blah!

Splat Floating Ring Toss by Boon

I am really starting to love all things by Boon. For one thing, their designs are always fun and unique and now...they are making everything BPA free! This floating ring toss game would be great for a boy or a girl and honestly...it might be fun for an adult too :-)

Garden Tub Squirties

Really...can any kid have enough bath squirties? They make them in a million shapes and sizes but I think these garden/insect squirties from Right Start are my favorite (especially because they come in their own little bag). They are bright, fun, and easy to hold and squirt.  Oh, and the best part, they are phthalate free!

Boon Frog Pod

This isn't exactly a toy, but it is one of the CUTEST bath toy holders on the market. I received this as a shower gift and it is one of the few baby items that I can honestly say I use every day. Addie loves when I dump all of her toys into the tub at once and with this handy little froggie, I can actually scoop them all back up at once too. If you haven't already added this to your baby registry, I highly recommend adding it ASAP! P.S. If frogs aren't your thing, Boon makes a Lady Bug Pod as well :-)

There you go! Some of my cute bath toy finds. If you have any bath tub toys that your kids can't live without, be sure to let me know so that I can add them to my Addie wish list!

And the Winner is...

Addie was so excited to pick a winner today, she woke up at 5:45 a.m. and couldn't go back to sleep :-) So we headed to Mommy's office to get everything ready.

I double checked my list (in my trusty covered notebook)...

I put all the entries into a basket...

Addie got ready to pick the big winner (with the help of Grandma)...

Who did Addie pick???

WOOHOO! The winner is Kate from ROSS RAMBLINGS!! You can visit her adorable blog here. Kate is a new mommy so she has LOTS of uses for her new notebook. Congrats Kate!!!

And Thanks again to everyone who entered. I have SO many wonderful new followers and SO many new blogs I am adding to my daily reads. This was so much fun...I think my mom and I will have to do it again very soon :-) Remember...if you would like your own notebook cover, my mom has a bunch for sale on her Etsy site so be sure to check out those and all of her other fabulous items. Have a Happy Monday everyone!!

Reunited & It Feels So Good

When Addie heard that her boyfriend Connor was coming up for a visit today, she did what any girl would do right before a big date:

She spent an hour picking out the perfect outfit...

And then another hour picking out the perfect pair of shoes...

Why all the fuss you ask? Well...Addie hadn't seen Connor in almost 7 months so she really wanted to look her best. As you can see, she was a little chunky monkey the last time the two of them were together. Connor didn't care though...he was still all about holding her hand :-)

Today, however, was a different story. Connor wasn't all about holding hands...he was all about playing with Addie's kitchen.

Addie did everything she could to get his attention (including grabbing him by the shirt and pulling him around). So, Connor did what any guy would do on a date with a clingy, needy girl...he got the hell out of there...

And escaped behind the couch.

And while Connor was hiding out, Addie got to open an early birthday present from Auntie Tara and Uncle Pat!

I'm pretty sure she thought the wrapping paper was the gift.

The bow was her favorite part. And Howie's too.

That is until she opened her BABY DOLL!!

She gave her new baby lots of hugs and kisses until it was time for Auntie Tara to open her birthday present.

Do you see her baby doll tossed to the side? Do you see how focused she is on that wrapping paper? She even has her little pinchers ready to grab that bow as soon as it hits the floor. I guess we know she is going to enjoy the present portion of her birthday party :-)

And here is Connor with his Auntie Jen! I can't BELIEVE how big he has gotten over the past 7 months. He is so cute with Addie and even though we never did get that hand holding picture today, it just gives us an excuse to drive to Decatur for another visit really soon.

It was great seeing you guys today! Happy Birthday again Auntie Tara!!

Friday Night With Richard Gere

After Addie went to sleep tonight, I was finally able to talk Eric into watching "Nights in Rodanthe" with me. He was reluctant at first, because the last chick flick I made him watch was so NOT good. It was "P.S. I Love You" and now every time I ask him to watch one of "my" movies he always says "Umm...is this one going to be as good as P.S. I Want to Kill Myself?" He is quite clever if you haven't figured it out already :-) And even though Eric fell asleep half way through this movie, I actually thought it was pretty good! The book was much better, as always, but it was worth watching just to see the chemistry between Richard Gere and Diane Lane. Actually, there were several things that made this movie worth the rental fee:

  • Richard Gere. Love scene. Hottie Hot Hot.
  • They are staying in one of the coolest Inns I have ever seen. I would definitely go to Rodanthe just to stay in that place.
  • Because the movie was by Nicholas Sparks...I was already prepared for a sad ending so it didn't hurt as bad this time. I cried myself to sleep for a week after watching "Message in a Bottle." Damn you Kevin Costnar...why did you go out in that storm!!!
  • This movie was more than just a story about the love between a man and a woman. It was also about the love between a mother and daughter and father and son. That is really the kind of stuff that gets me in the end. It was very cute and I did shed a tear more than once.

So there you have it. I can't promise your husband or boyfriend will like it, especially since nothing blows up, there are no fight scenes and you don't see one set of boobs. But if you are in the mood for a cute love story and don't mind a tear jerker ending, then I say run on out to Red Box and pick this one up :-)

A Freaking CUTE Party Favor

Okay...this is going to be a quick post tonight because I just got done grading 25 English papers! And if you want some insight into how those went, someone actually used the word "cuz" in their essay instead of the word "because". Holy crap...I have my work cut out for me this semester :-)

Anyway, between grading papers and watching about 5 of my favorite shows tonight, I have little time left to be on the computer. But...I did receive one of Addie's birthday party favors in the mail today and they are so freaking CUTE!!!

They are daisy suckers by TwinkleCandy.com and I have to say that they are even cuter in person! They are all individually wrapped and come on these nice long plastic sticks. I am going to fill a pot with some floral foam and moss and stick the suckers in it. I thought it would serve as a cute centerpiece that way. If you are in charge of hosting a shower or party sometime soon and are still looking for a cute favor, you should really check out Twinkle Candy's website because they have a ton of great sucker shapes. I especially love the ones in the shape of little baby feet :-)

Well I hope you all have a great night! I promise to post something more exciting tomorrow!

Is This Really Safe?

Probably not. But Addie LOVES playing behind our couch. I don't even remember when she first figured out how to get back there, but ever since she did...she wants to be back there all the time. At least I have my little watch dog to look after her while she plays.

I guess I can kind of see why peanut likes it back there. For one thing, our couch backs up to floor-to-ceiling windows and she can sit and look out into the backyard (that's what Howard does).  Plus, I think all kids like little secret hiding spaces. I know my brothers and I built forts all the time out of couch cushions and blankets. I guess this is just her little fort for now.

I should just keep her from going back there, but because it entertains her so much (and because I can't fit my bootie back there to drag her out 100 times a day), I decided I better baby proof the situation. So I scrubbed the windows, dusted the baseboards, vacuumed the carpet and pulled the couch out from the wall a little bit more. Now she can crawl with ease and I can fit back there when it is time to finally drag her out.

Is it weird that I am letting my baby crawl behind my couch? Do any of your kids have crazy places they LOVE to hang out in?

Too Cute Tuesday: Perfect Planners for Mommies & Paper Lovers

As much as I would love to be the type of person that can keep all of my addresses, dates, notes, lists etc. in a little electronic device...I am not that girl. I am a paper girl. I LOVE paper...almost as much as I love being organized. I have carried a planner for as long as I can remember and I would literally be lost without one. And now that I am a Mommy (and much more forgetful) it is even more important for me to keep all of my important information in one place. But where does one find the perfect planner? Or in my case, where do I find the perfect mommy planner? The hard part about finding the perfect planner is that everyone has different needs and sometimes, one company and/or style cannot suit all people. Over the years, my needs have definitely changed and therefore I have experimented with MANY different planners and organizers. So..I thought I would share some of these great planner finds with you! Each of these are both functional and super cute.

Wheat Linen Desk Agenda by Hable Construction

This is a great planner for anyone looking to keep it simple. If you don't like any loose papers and don't want to mess with an actual binder, this desk agenda from Hable Construction is for you! It has a week-at-a-view appointment calendar, a telephone/address directory, full color maps, future planning pages, note pages and...if you are a business traveler, there is a great section with international travel information, currency exchange rates and more! You can see pictures of each of these pages on their website.

Design Your Own Planning System by Franklin Covey

I have to admit...I have been a Franklin Covey junkie for many years. They have always been my go-to planning company because they have so much to choose from! They always have great planning page designs and now...you can actually design your own!! They also have a lot of great planning accessories which is another reason why they have always been my favorite. However, they are a bit pricey and I often feel like they give you paper overload when you purchase a planning system. However, if you are someone who tracks all of your auto information, keeps a detailed budget sheet and references the periodic table of elements on a regular basis...this is the planner for you!

Microsatin Planner by Truly Mom

This is DEFINITELY the planner for all you paper junkies. This one planner opens up to three separate sections! It contains a list pad, two post-it pads, a calender, address book, a "my day" pad and a pen!! Oh...and a sheet of stickers. It really is a darling planner and even though I love all the different notepads, it is a bit bulky and I couldn't see myself carrying all this around in my purse! However, if I wanted a cute planner to leave open on my desk, this would definitely be my pick.

Baby Daze New Parent Logbook

Okay, this isn't exactly a planner, but I still wanted to include this for all of you mommies out there. This planner doesn't include a calendar or address book...but it will definitely keep you organized those first few months of your baby's life. I received this as a shower gift from a dear friend of mine and let me just tell you...it was a life saver!!! This logbook will help you keep track of your baby's feedings, diaper changes, medical information, milestones and just about everything else you will need to know at EVERY single one of your pediatrician appointments. It is small enough to throw in your diaper bag and keep on your night stand. I really loved using this book and I plan to get another one for our next baby.

The Perfect Planner by Cutsie Tootsie Designs

Duh! You KNEW I was going to list my mom's planner on this post. I mean seriously...how could I not? She designed this planner based on all the things that we loved in other planners, but could never find all in one. I wanted a planner that I could use as my calendar and address book, my checkbook holder, my credit card organizer, my coupon organizer and still have enough pockets to organize other odds and ends. My personal planner also holds my stamps, Addie's medical tracker (the pedi gave me a small one to keep with me), my insurance cards, a little notebook for quick jotting when I am out and about, a pack of post-it notes AND a pen. I am telling you...this really is the PERFECT planner! At least for me :-) And if you think this is the perfect planner for you...you are in luck! My mom's Etsy Site is up and running! Check it out today to buy your very own "Perfect Planner"! Also, be sure to enter my GIVEAWAY before you leave!!
