Blogger 411: All You Need to Know About Me

I know I'm coming in about a day late, but I've loved reading all the other Blogger 411 posts floating around, so I thought I would join in on the fun today and link up with Becky From Mrs to Mama and answer all her fun questions!

1. How long have you been blogging? And what got you started on blogging? Has your blog changed?
I actually started my blog in 2007, but it was only to upload a few ultrasound videos of Addison to share with my family and friends. I was (and still am) a part of a wonderful mommy board on Babycenter.com and a few of the ladies I chatted with had blogs. And so did a few of my close friends that lived out of town (House of Rose :-) so I decided what the hell! I love to write and share stories and so I officially started this blog on June 1, 2008. I wouldn't say my blog has changed at all over the last 4 years. I still spend most of my time talking about family, crafting, decorating, camping, reading young adult fiction (especially HP), running, blogging and wine drinking :-)

 2. Did you go to college? If so where, and what did you study?
I did go to college! I went to Southern Illinois University Carbondale and will be a proud Saluki until the day I die. I received my Bachelors in English with a focus on Shakespearian Literature (it was my favorite), and my Masters in English with a concentration in Rhetoric and Composition. I also wore spandex and proudly called myself a Saluki Shaker :-)

3. Where have you traveled?
I honestly haven't done much traveling in my life. My parents took us to Disney several times when we were younger and in college, I traveled a bit with our basketball team when they made the NCAA tournament. With Eric, we traveled to Atlanta to see friends when we were first engaged...

And then we went to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic for our honeymoon...

And just last year, we took our own babies to Disney!!

We may not have done much traveling in the past, but now that we own a camper, I can guarantee we will be adding more states to our list :-)

4. If you won the lottery, what would be the first thing you would buy?
I would buy my Dad a new truck. Ha! He is just the type of guy to take care of everyone else before himself. I remember looking out at our driveway when I was in college. My brothers and I all had very nice (used) vehicles that my parents helped us buy, and my Mom always drove a nice car or SUV. But then there was my Dad, with his crappy, unreliable pick-up trucks. And he never cared. He said it made him happy to take care of us and he said if he ever won the lotto, he would finally buy himself a new truck. So my brothers and I said a long time ago that if any of us won first, we would buy Dad a truck before anything else :-)

5. What are your 3 biggest pet peeves?
Clothes on the floor in front of the hamper. I can't handle it. People who don't hold doors for others, especially when they see you juggling 2 kids and an armful of bags. And finally, when people say, "I seen that." Sadly, my husband, father, brothers and many of my friends say it ALL. THE. TIME. so I am learning to get over that one.

6. What is your favorite movie?
I love movies so this is super hard for me! My favorite series was Harry Potter, my favorite comedy is hands down National Lampoons Christmas Vacation. My favorite love story is a tie between Love Actually and The Holiday. My favorite movie as a little girl was Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. But my FAVORITE movie of all time is definitely White Christmas.

Clearly, I love Christmas movies in general, but this movie is special to me for a lot of reasons. It makes me think of my Grandma because I watched at her house for the first time when I was a little girl. It makes me think of my Dad because he always tries to sing like Bing Crosby. It makes me think of my mom because she used to make me big skirts that would spin like all the dancers in the movie. And it also makes me think of Eric. He loves this movie too and every Christmas, we find a night to cuddle on the couch and watch it together. Sorry...that was a long answer for a pretty simple question.

7. What is your drink of choice; wine, beer, or liquor. Or Water, Soda, Tea?
Wine. Duh :-)

8. What is something you enjoy to do when you have me time?
My favorite thing to do is get a coffee and walk around a bookstore. I will pick that over anything else.

9. If you could have a $10,000 shopping spree to one store, which store would it be?
Target. Hands down.

10. Share with us an embarrassing moment of your past? Or present.
When I was dancing at half time during my LAST football game as a college senior, we were wearing these black costumes that had sheer material around the shoulders and the mid section. This required everyone to wear a strapless bra for the performance and I, of course, forgot mine. So I borrowed a friend's bra who had way bigger boobies than me. About halfway through the performance, we did a move where we wrap our arms around our waist and it was then that I could feel it. The bra. Around my waist. Showing through my outfit. It had slipped down at some point and I didn't even notice it. But one by one, I saw all the cheerleaders on the sidelines point at me with laughter in their eyes. I had one choice...keep dancing or run off crying. I chose to keep dancing :-)

11. What day would you love to relive again?
Our wedding day. It took SO much planning and it was over before we knew it. We also spent so much time running around talking to people that night, we missed the opportunity to just stand and soak things in. Plus, I would love to wear my dress again :-)

12. If your life was turned into a movie... what actor would play you?
The only person I have ever been told I look like is Chelsea Handler. Not sure if I see that or not...but she is hilarious and I would freaking LOVE for her to play me.

13. What are the jobs you had in high school/college/the early years?
My first job was at a dry cleaners with my best friend Tiff. We did nothing but eat candy and talk about boys. I also worked for Farmers Insurance the rest of high school as a secretary and made big bucks. In college, I worked for Abercrombie on my holiday and summer breaks and Pier 1 Imports when I was in school. That was the best job EVER!!!!

14. Show us a picture from high school or college.
I don't have many college pictures on my computer, but I do have this one and I love it. My fondest memories from college all revolved around being a part of the spirit groups. From our hilarious marching band, to our goofy mascots, to all of the dancers and cheerleaders...most of my best friends were a part of one or the other.

And I may have dated the Gray dog. Two of them, actually. Whatevs.

15. If you could travel anywhere in the world, all expenses paid, where would you go?
Honest to God...I would take my family back to Disney. I would love to travel to Europe and see my family in Germany but I HATE HATE HATE flying and I would much rather pick a shorter trip. So yes...Disney it is. I'm a dork.

16. Show us the most current picture of you or you, or your family, or anything of meaning to you.
This is the most current picture of the 4 of us, and it was taken at Yogi Bear this summer. I love it because it is so us. My hair is always in a pony, Eric is always in his hat, Blake is always freaking out about not wanting to be in a picture, and Addie is spacing off like she usually does. Ha!

17. Where do you see your life 5 years from now?
In 5 years, my kiddies will be in school full time which means I will get to teach more! That's exciting. And I hope that the kids enjoy being involved in sports and activities because I know Eric and I will really love taking them to games and performances and being an active part of their lives. I know Eric is dying to coach some baseball :-)

    1. Vicki, I am so happy I tried out for Poms in college. Like I said in my post, I met most of my best friends that way, but being on an athletic team also kept me in shape, it kept me active and made me responsible for my actions and my grades. It was a really positive experience for me and I secretly hope my daughter wants to try out when she is in college :-)

  7. I've been a blog FAILURE the past couple of days, so as you'll tell from your overlaoded email/blog comments I'm catching up.

I LOVE your college pictures, and I know I've already talked to you about how stunning your wedding dress is, but I'm going to say it again.GORGEOUS! That bow is perfect and I certainly hope you and Eric have that photo framed and on the wall somewhere in your house. It's stunning!

White Christmas is one of my ALL TIME favorite Christmas movies too! About 3 years ago it was playing at a local playhouse theatre here in England. As it's too expensive to fly home for Christmas, Lynne and Garry took Carl and I to see it as a surprise to help me feel less home sick (after all, it's in VERMONT!) It hardly ever snows in England, and I've never seen a white Christmas since I've been here. But the night we went to watch the film in the big fancy theatre, it started snowing. It was the night before Christmas eve and there were massive beautifully white puffy snowflakes falling from the sky. It's one of my favorite memories in England I cried my eyes out. We talk about it every single Christmas :) You reminded me of that. I love when movies have fond nostalgic memories associated with them.

I loved reading this post, I feel like I know you even better! I wish I had taken part it looks like so much fun! xoxo
