Our Weekend in a Nutshell: A Taste of Fall

I know we still have a few more weeks until Labor Day, but this weekend truly felt like the start of Fall. The weather was absolutely GORGEOUS here!!! We couldn't have picked a better weekend to squeeze in a camping trip. For the first time in a very, VERY long time, we were all able to play outside without sweating our booties off. And the kids were so happy about that.

And so was I :-) I could drink my coffee hot AND wear a hoodie.

This summer, Eric and the kids and I have made a lot of great new friends at our campground. Addie and Blake know all the kids by name and whenever we pull up and see the other campers, the kids go running for their buddies. Here they are with two of their friends watching a movie this weekend.

Such cuties :-)

Even though the weather was chilly and very fall-like at night and in the morning, the afternoons got warm enough to swim. Apparently, not everyone realized this so we practically had the beach to ourselves on Friday. It was wonderful!!

We didn't waste one second of this beautiful weather. If we weren't swimming in the lake or building sand castles, we were canoeing with my father-in-law, paying at the playground or doing some serious fishing.

Fishing has truly become one of Addie's favorite things to do, which makes her Daddy very happy :-)

The kids went NON. STOP. this weekend. No naps. No quiet time. I was actually a little worried they wouldn't last when my parents came down Saturday night for dinner, but they did. And then some :-)

Once a month, our club hires a DJ to play at the pavilion and put on a little party. There's music, a disco  ball, glow sticks for the kids and a big bubble machine. I don't know what it is about kids and bubbles...but as soon as these two saw that thing turn on...they went running.

Although, I'm not even sure Blake noticed the bubbles once he got there because he was too busy picking up chicks.

But Addie was in heaven.

She just ran...and ran...and ran. With no shoes on.

These two partied the night away dancing and goofing off with all the other kids. After that, we ate some s'mores, did some cuddling, washed a pound of dirt off their bodies, and they were out like a light.

Eric and I got to spend the rest of the night relaxing by the fire. It was such a perfect weekend...I almost sad to come home today.

But we've got a very busy week ahead, which is why I am so glad we were able to get away while we could. The kids had a blast and we are already counting the days until Labor Day :-)

  1. I'm so glad you guys had so much fun camping! The picture of Blake with his hands on your dad's cheeks...PRECIOUS! And Addie looks more and more grown up each day (especially with her US Gymnastic team messy-bun!)Also, you totally need to frame that picture of her running in the bubbles. It's so sweet!

Where are you headed for Labor Day? This campground or do you have a different one booked?

  2. It looks like you guys had a blast this weekend! :) It really was the perfect weekend, weather-wise. I was even grateful for the big rainstorms we got in Ohio on Saturday -- they were desperately needed and gave it a definite feeling of fall :)

I can't believe labor day is almost here... and Baby L is almost here! OMG i'm so terrified!! LOL

Those pictures you posted of Addie and Eric on Instagram... LOVE. I agree, she is looking more grown up every single day! And Blake is as handsome as ever. :-)

  9. DARN! Can I come live with you? I promise I won't eat much and I'll even sleep on the floor! Anything to get away from this blasted Texas heat. I. AM. DYING. I told some friends the other day that I don't even "go outside" anymore. I walk from the house to the car when necessary. THAT'S IT!!

LOL! Well, despite our lovely surroundings I hope your weather stays cool.

  10. LOVE! I really have never been much of a camper but you make me want to give it a change of heart. Especially since you said you keep essie and wine in your camper. HA! I really cannot get over Addie's gymnast hair and the photo with her in the bubbles is my favorite. I'm happy you had a looovely family weekend!! xxx
