All Dogs Go to Heaven

14 years is a long time to have a best friend...especially a furry one as cute as this.

Ami is my sis-in-law Diana's sweet little baby. Well, she started out as Di's, but the minute she met Adam...she became "their" doggie.

It was easy to fall in love with Ami. She was a tiny little fur ball that fit in the palm of your hand but she had the sass and feistiness of a dog 10 times her size. Everyone was nuts about her...even Howie.

Di and Adam always like to joke that Ami was just a "crabby old lady", but she was the most patient and tolerant little thing you have ever met.

She loved being held (by adults) and everyone always wanted to take their turn. My Dad had a HUGE soft spot for Aimers.

And the girl could dress!! She has cuter clothes than I do. Ha!

For the past few years, our spunky little Ami has been dealing with some health issues. For at least the last three Christmases, Di has swore that it was Ami's last. But that little peanut just kept on fighting and living. She gave Di 14 wonderful years of love and friendship, and she gave our family 8 of those years.

But sadly, Ami went to heaven today. She passed away in her Mommy's arms...the way that all doggies should go.

We like to think that Ami is in heaven today, playing with her old buddy Fattie and peeing on the rug. We are all going to miss her so very much, but we are thankful to have had so much time with her sweet furry face.

Rest in peace, old lady. We love you with all our hearts.

Hunger Games Sillies

Come hell or high water...I am seeing The Hunger Games this weekend. I simply can't wait any longer. Have any of you seen it yet? What did you think?

And while we are on the subject of The Hunger Games, I thought I would share some of my favorite Pinterest Sillies this week.

I would be the first to die. For sure.

Word.

Love that the Boondock Saints are in that list.

And finally...

Awesome.

If you'd like a link to any of these pics or see the rest of my funnies, make sure to follow my Sillies Board on Pinterest :-)

Stop & Smell the Roses: Week 5

Happy Hump Day everyone! I am back this week linking up with House of Rose for my third video blog...

And I have to admit...this is my favorite so far. I love that Mandy is calling this "So What Wednesday" because it's perfect for this little crappy vlog I shot. I mean...

So what that I'm not wearing make-up and my hair is still wet from my shower...at least I took one.

So what that I'm rocking my glasses. Damn allergies.

So what that I have NO video editing skills and actually lost sound for a second in my vlog. Whatevs...I'll get better.

and finally...

So what that this video is just a bunch of rambling. It's probably the most "real" glimpse of my everyday appearance (and life) that you will ever get on this blog. Ha!

Enjoy friends! And thanks for creating this link-up Mandy. Addie and I are actually having a lot of fun with it :-)

Easter Snacks, Traditions and a Free Printable

Can you believe that Easter is already less than 2 weeks away? This year is just flying by!

If your calendar looks like mine, the next two weeks are going to be filled with lots of Easter fun. School parties, church celebrations, family gatherings, etc. And if you happen to be looking for an easy, inexpensive treat for one of these events, look no further.

There are a million variations of the "Easter Carrot" treat floating around Pinterest, but this is what I was able to put together for Addie's preschool class...

All you need are some clear cake decorators bags (or go to Michael's and pick up the colored carrot bags I used), a jumbo box of cheddar Goldfish crackers and 1 spool of ribbon. And if you want to add the cute "Hoppy Easter" tags I have on mine, just grab some white card stock and a 2" scallop punch. Then of course just download a sheet of my tags here.

These tags aren't just for carrot bags either. They would work great as cupcake toppers or even stuck in a pretty plant. These tulips are for Addie's teachers, but they would also make a great centerpiece for Easter Brunch :-)

Aren't these tulips beautiful? I found them at Home Depot today already planted in these adorable tin buckets for only $7!! Score! I think I might need to go back and pick one up for myself :-)

While I was out buying crafting supplies today, I also finished shopping for the Easter Bunny and I can't wait for next Sunday!!! If you have kids or grandkids staying with you on Easter, here is a really special tradition to start with them. I found this link on Pinterest and I just had to visit See Jane Blog to read all about this.

What you do is, give your kids a special bag of "Magic" jelly beans and have them plant them in the ground the night before Easter.

And then when they wake up, they will see that their magic jelly beans grew a lollipop!!!

I found huge lollipops like these at Michael's today for only $1.50. I can't wait until they "grow" out of our yard :-)

And finally, the one last Pinterest find I just had to share on my Easter post is this snack called "Bunny Bait". The recipe is from Sing for Your Supper blog and I thought it would be the perfect snack for Easter movie night :-) It's almost too pretty to eat.

Well that's all I have for you today, friends! Anyone else have some new Easter traditions they are starting this year? Addie wants to "read" everyone a story from her new Toddler Bible and even though she makes up 90% of the story, she always ends it with, "Because Jesus loves us". Yes he does peanut...yes he does.

So let's celebrate it!!

Video Tutorial: How to Make Printable Cupcake Toppers Using My Memories Suite

It's finally here my friends...the video tutorial I have been promising for a very long time.

How to Make Printable Cupcake Toppers Using My Memories Suite Software

Before you watch this tutorial, make sure you have a copy of My Memories Suite digital scrapbooking software installed on your computer. You can download it here. It looks like Version 3 is available, although my tutorial is using Version 2. From what I can tell, the basic design functions are all the same so you should be able to navigate through the software no matter which version you are using.

This first video is the main tutorial. I walk you through all the basic steps of creating your topper, as well as introduce you to some of the options you have when it comes to digital clipart, papers and fonts. I reference a few of my favorite websites to purchase digital clip arts, papers and fonts and you can find a list of these websites at the bottom of this post.

This video is about 17 minutes long so pour yourself a cup of coffee before watching it :-)

I realized after I made this video that it might be helpful to show you guys how to create an 8.5x11 sheet of  12 toppers. This makes it SUPER easy for you to print and share a jpeg file. I learned how to do this after LOTS of trial and error. This video is much shorter, but just as helpful.

Even though these tutorials only took me a night to shoot, I feel like I have been prepping for them for a year (maybe because I have. Ha!). But now that they are done, I can't wait to show everyone just how easy it is to create your own printables with this software. I realize other questions might arise as you begin to make your toppers, so please don't hesitate to contact me at adailydoseofdavis{at}gmail{dot}com if you need any help.

Enjoy friends...these were definitely a labor of love :-)

Here is a list of some of my favorite sites to purchase digital clipart, papers and font.

Peppermint Creative
Scrappin Doodles
Shabby Princess
Etsy (searching digital clipart and/or papers)
Designer Digitals
Lettering Delights

This Weekend shamROCKED!

I have to admit...when I saw everything that was on our calendar for this weekend...I let out a really loud sigh and said, "Ahhh shit" I mean "YAY!!!!!!" Recital pictures, a birthday party and my first race of the season (an 8K no less). I was a little tired just thinking about it.

But like all busy weekends you anticipate, the moments come and you wonder why you weren't more excited! It turned out to be a FANTASTIC weekend.

Addie's recital pictures were first up on the list Friday evening. Last year's recital photoshoot was total chaos and I was worried it was going to be more of the same this year. But to my TOTAL surprise, the studio had everything running like clockwork, Addie let me do her hair and make-up without a fuss, and all the girls looked absolutely adorable. Here is my sassy little diva before we left the house...

The girls are dancing to, "You've Got a Friend in Me," from Toy Story and I can't wait to see her performance in June. It will be here before we know it!!

After pictures, it was off to bed early because a certain little man had a birthday party this weekend!!

I had Nia and Nolan come over Saturday morning for some birthday donuts so that Dana and Kevin could get their house ready for the big party. After all, they weren't just having human guests. There were also a bunch of reptiles coming to the party!!!!

When my SIL Dana told me that she was having a reptile show for Nolan's party, I was a little freaked out. I am not a big fan of spiders, lizards and most of all...SNAKES!!! So when they pulled out one of the first "guests", I made sure to stand back and just take pictures. Eric was a brave soul holding that spider...

The kids wouldn't touch it, but they were totally fascinated.

The company that did the show had all kinds of creatures. They brought out two huge lizards, the spider, a huge bull-frog and then this baby alligator...

My daughter has no fear. Not even when they brought out a 13-foot SNAKE!!!

CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS?? It was in my SIL's living room. And the kids were all just, "La La La...look at this cute snake." Even Blake took a liking to him!

It was unreal. Dana played it pretty cool too but when Nolan went and sat in the middle of the snake, she was over it. Haha!

We all could not get over how fearless these kids were. Here's Nia with her snake necklace and headband!!

Seeing the kids play with all these snakes made us grown-ups feel like a bunch of pansies. So some of us stepped it up and held the snakes too. Here's Katie being brave.

And are you ready for this?

I even held the snakes! AHHH!!!!!

I still cannot believe I did that. I'm gonna have nightmares for weeks :-)

Dana and Kevin always throw great parties but this was over the top fun. Dana has way better pictures on her camera and I hope to steal them soon because seriously...you have to see my Mother-in-Law holding the tarantula!!

Amazeballs.

It was really hard to get the kids (and myself) to wind down after such a fun party, but once we did, it was lights out. And it's a good thing too because I had to run the Shamrock Shuffle 8K this morning!!! I made sure to get all decked out for it :-)

We could not have asked for a more GORGEOUS day in the city. Joe and I felt a lot more confident going into this race than we did last year, so that made it an even more fun and exciting experience. Sure...Joe wasn't the first guy to finish...

He was...

And I wasn't the first woman...

Or the second to finish...

I was actually the 25,346th person to finish...

But that's good enough for me...

Especially since it was out of 40,000 :-)

Joe and I both finished in 55 minutes, which is a huge improvement from last year.

I am really, really proud of us :-)

I think what made today the most special was having my Dad there to see me run.

My Dad was quite the runner back in his day and I think it really made him proud to see me take such an interest in something he use to love. He made a promise to me today that he would get back into jogging shape and try to do a 5K with me this fall. I am holding you to that Dad! And so is Joe :-)

 {Please note this photo was approved by the Frown a Face Foundation :-)}

I also had my fabulous hubby out to support me today, thanks to Nana who was willing to watch both kiddies all day for us. Thanks Nana!

I am a fan of Nike Running on Facebook and they posted this picture today along with a congrats to all the runners of the Shamrock Shuffle who came out and shamROCKED Chicago this morning. I just had to repost it because it was so true...

Running has nothing to do with luck. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication. But most of all...it takes a lot of support and encouragement. Thanks to all my family and friends who supported me today, especially my Pops and Eric...the best cheering section in the whole city!

I hope you all had just as fabulous of a weekend as we did!!

Good Thing I'm Not "THAT" 30-Something Woman...

Feeling a little jealous this morning that I couldn't make the show, I watched some footage of the opening night of The Hunger Games movie and saw a bunch of 30-something women wearing Peeta t-shirts.

I thought to myself,

What self-respecting mother would actually wear a movie t-shirt to the theater??

Oh wait...

Well it was only that one time...

Okay...maybe two times.

Hey...at least I didn't completely embarrass myself by making out with a cardboard cut-out of the characters or something like that...

DAMN IT!!!

Oh well. Guess I should go out and buy my Hunger Games  t-shirt before all the other 30-something women snatch them up :-)

Happy Hunger Games my fellow young-adult-fiction-loving friends!

Lots to Celebrate and Be Thankful For

To all of you looking forward to another video blog from me this week...I am so sorry to let ya down. I couldn't get iMovie working yesterday and I've tried to film 3 little clips today, all of which ended with a screaming/crying/whining child, a dog losing his shit over the UPS man, or a telemarketing phone call.

It just wasn't my day for vlogging.

And to be honest, the only reason I really wanted to make it happen today was for this lady right here...

This beautiful lady is my Aunt Lori and she is

GETTING MARRIED TODAY!!!

My Aunt Lori is a hopeless romantic and she has waited a very long time for Mr. Right. I am just so happy and thankful that she has finally found him!!! It was truly a love at first sight moment and they aren't wasting any time tying that knot. And why should they? Life is short and true love is rare :-) I really wish we could all be there to celebrate with her in Nashville today, but her and Jerry are keeping it small and simple. My Grams and Richard are there to witness the day though and that just makes me so happy.

Congrats again Aunt Lori. Words can't express how happy I am for you!! Love you!! I promise I will vlog for you next week :-)

So in addition to a wedding this week, we also have TWO birthdays!! My baby brother Adam took another step closer to the big 3-0 this week...

And my sweet nephew Nolan is turning the big 3 on Saturday!! He is having an awesome Batman birthday party and my SIL also hired some people to come and do an animal/reptile show! It's gonna be so fun.

And after all of the birthday celebrating this weekend, I am going to get up bright and early and run the Shamrock Shuffle 8K in the city on Sunday! It's just gonna be me, my buddy Joe, and 40,000 of our closest friends :-)

Last year the Shuffle kicked my ass. Seriously...I was not ready to run 3 miles, let alone 5. It was also our first 80 degree day and I was hot.

And sweaty.

And defeated.

And then a man with a prosthetic leg came running past me. He had the biggest smile on his face and I can only begin to imagine what it felt like to run that race after overcoming so much. I felt silly for being so upset about my time and the fact that I couldn't run the whole thing. So this time...I am not going to get down on myself. I am going to run with the same smile on my face as that man did and be thankful for my health and the ability to run. I think we all take that for granted sometimes :-)

So there you go, friends. That's what I have to celebrate and be thankful for this week. I know I didn't vlog about it, but I definitely Stopped to Smell the Roses today :-)

Blake's "New" Room

Even though we still have a crib up in our house, it's clear that my babies are growing up. I can still remember the day we finished Blake's nursery and I posted a bunch of these pictures on my blog. I was so happy with how it turned out.

I spent MANY hours in that rocking chair and changed many diapers on that changing table. I loved the blue on Blake's walls and the little airplanes flying above. It was the perfect nursery to me...bright and cheery.

But my baby boy is growing up. He still loves his cars, trucks, trains and planes, so I decided to keep most of his theme the same when we moved him into his new room. I am still in love with the gas pump bookshelf my Dad made and I still love the transportation pictures that hang all over his room. I wasn't ready to give all that up. But...it was clear we needed to make a few changes.

For one thing...I was over those blue walls. OVER them. Also, I no longer needed a rocking chair for late night feeding sessions so we moved that out and brought in a play table. I went more neutral with the walls, but added some trim and a strip of blue for some color (and by "I" I mean my Dad and Eric :-).

There is just no way to get a good picture of his new room, but you get the idea. This still doesn't feel like a major room change since Blake is still in his crib (and will remain there until he crawls out or can't fit in it anymore). I think the fun pictures will come down the road when we finally graduate to his big boy bed. Nana is already planning to make a quilt :-)

I have to say, now that the room change has been made, I am SO HAPPY I decided to do this. I love having the kids across from each other and I think they like it too. They have been spending lots of time playing in each other's rooms and when Addie got a little jealous about Blake getting a "new" room, I decided to finally get her the new duvet I have been eyeing up at Pottery Barn Kids FORVER!! I think it really makes her room :-)

Tinkerbell and Rapunzel are digging it too :-)

So...now that I have both kiddies situated and happy in their rooms, it's time to start planning MY ROOM! My office/craft room that is. I have too many ideas floating around but I need to start nailing some things down. This is where the real fun begins :-)
